National Blue Trail route / part IX

A pleasant forest walk awaits us on this twenty-kilometer excursion. During our hike connecting the Mátra and the Bükk, we pass through charming meadows and at the endpoints we visit lookout towers offering amazing views of spacious mountain panoramas and medieval castles.

We follow creek valleys evoking the world of the Bükk, and we certainly do not have to count with a stream of visitors in this deserted countryside. The pleasant, spacious meadow of Rozsnakpuszta is just as charming a spot of this landscape as are the memorable historical and geological sights of the two endpoints.

In Sirok you can find a beautiful castle ruin with a gorgeous view of the surrounding valleys and the northern wall of the Mátra. Near the castle we can also see spectacular rock formations: the boulders called Barát and Apáca are built of the same rock. It’s guaranteed no one will pass by their panorama and rounded, yet bold design.

TIPS

• Take time to visit the castle in Sirok

• Don’t miss the lookout point above the village in Szarvaskő from where we see the strait
