National Blue Trail route / part XXIII

distance 68.4 km; journey time 19 hours 40 minutes

On this route we roam the Szalonna Karst rising above the Bódva valley and the Cserehát region stretching all the way to the Hernád valley with its curved hills. Serious economic and social challenges leave their mark on the region, but the landscape features, the architectural monuments of the past and the network of small villages offer a Blue Trail route rich in panoramas and a distinctive atmosphere.

TIPS

• Visiting the Rákóczi cave is a good program, which is possible with a cave tour guide, led by the Aggtelek National Park (there is an admission fee!)

• We can make a detour near Martonyi to the ruins of the Pauline monastery founded in 1341.

• In Rakacaszend it is worth visiting the Romanesque Reformed Church

• We can go to the Rákóczi Castle in Felsővadász, where currently a school is operating

• In Gibárt you can see the hydroelectric power plant, an industrial monument built in 1903
